a salvage title means that the car is considered un-fixable. usually by the insurance company. it is cheaper to replace the car than fix it. but then someone decides to fix the car anyways. the title will indicate it has been salvaged.

what this means to you as a buyer is RUN! unless you have very little cash and very bad credit and the car is under $500. then stay away. they will just give you problems.

also it doesn't have to be wrecked. it could be engine or wiring something that is going to cost more to fix than replace.

if the dealer has the title or it is lost. then that is a lost title and they need to fix that with DMV before they can sell it to you.
