Virginia Title Insurance

Jessica Said:

what should i do from here? (auto accident/ insurance issues)?

We Answered:

Okay, bottom line is whoever owns the car (has the title) is responsible for the insurance. You can't insure something you don't own or have a vested interest in. It's called "insurable interest". Otherwise, I'd get a policy on my neighbor's punk kids and collect a check every time they wreck.

Your friend purchased insurance on the car, without owning it. So, when the insurance company discovered this, they canceled the policy and will give her back whatever she has paid for the insurance.
If you weren't at fault for the wreck, I'm not sure why the other driver is trying to sue you. Hopefully, you can prove you weren't at fault in court. Time to lawyer up and get insurance on the car until you sell it.

Can I drive a Car in VA but have it registered in MO?

We Answered:

Its fine to do that. You may be more apt to be pulled over by Va police if you do something wrong, as they make extra money off out of stater fines. You can't renew the reg without going through the MO DMV though.

What can I do about keeping a car from bankruptcy?

We Answered:

First things first...is there still a loan on the vehicle?? If not and it's paid in full the vehicle cannot be touched. If there is a loan on it, she can re-affirm the loan and continue to pay. You don't give much info, but if it's bought and paid for you're fine.

Discuss It!
