There is no car.

There are stolen pictures of someone else's car.

There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

The next email will be from another of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program" and will demand you pay for "shipping costs", in cash, and only by Western Union or moneygram.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program does NOT work like that scammer described.
eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program does NOT insist you pay cash anonymously.
eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program does NOT send emails with crappy grammar, horribly spelled words and from a free email address.

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his 'potential sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don't bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn't worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

If you google "fake car shipping scam", "western union shipping fraud" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts of victims and near victims of this type of scam.

Sounds like one of those scams from South Africa. Stay away from it. I don't know of one person that would need to give money to their wife before they go to Afghanistan. The military direct deposits paychecks and if it were someone deploying their pay would be tax free plus they would be getting hostile fire, family sep, and imminent danger pay.

Edit: After checking the global email list I can confirm that there is nobody in the military with an email account by the name of Marc LaMothe. Although there is a somewhat famous hockey player by that name.

I think you might be recalling a movie based off of a John Grisham novel called THE RAINMAKER. It had Jon Voight (AJ's birth father), Matt Damon, Danny, DeVito, and Clare Daines in it as well.
As a side note- the movie was good, but the book was so much better (as these things usually are)

sounds like a scam...do not send him the title if you do he owns it after he puts it in his name.( to get ins and plates on it .) he needs to come and pay you the rest of the money then take the title and car. he can go to his insurance co with the vin # off the car and tell them he just bought a car down there they should be able to give him a temp insurance card to bring it home and he can get a temp plate in Georgia after he puts it in his name there to get it home on ( i done it last month from Texas i live in Michigan) and if i where you i would have him sign the title right in front of you and take i photo copy of it to keep for your records showing who you sold it to ...

Forget title history, the fact the VIN number was missing from the door along with the emission label was enough to pass on the deal.

Go back to the dealer, point out the missing information and ask for a refund. Hopefully they won't play the "You bought it as is" card and refuse.
