It really depends on the insurance company. Alot of companies have been lenient in the last few years in regards to have a car on a policy that's not under the named insured's name.

However, if it's a family policy the insurance companies will very likely not have a problem with the car not being under the named insured's name. My best suggestion is to call your insurance carrier, and ask them if there's a problem with this.
