Title Insurance Process

Minnie Said:

does the insurance and title to a car have to be the same person?

We Answered:

Yes you may add your car to your husband's policy because under definition of insured says named insured and spouse living in the same residence. (Even in NJ!!). You should be added as an actual named insured on the policy even though you are automatically covered as an insured because there can be times when you may not have coverage when you should be (like extended liability to a rental car). So make sure your policy has both your names on top instead of just your husband's with you as a driver. Also, if for any reason you become separated and no longer live in the same household, you want to be protected until you either reconcile or split the policy.
When I got married, I owned my car & my husband owned his but we combined our policy.
You also can save some premium because many companies give a multicar credit (5% to 25% depending on the state & company).

Gwendolyn Said:

is there any way to get insurance on my motorcycle and ride it while im in the process of getting the title?

We Answered:

You do not need a title to insure a vehicle. You need the VIN. The title can be held by a finance company, for example. But you still can insure it.
