Can anybody help me out with some information?

We Answered:

Small correction - "so legally we can only continue to be eligible to receive " - not so. You can have a vehicle with a value of $5000 - any value over that is considered an asset and is factored into your OSAP entitlement. So if you had a $7,000 car, OSAP would assign $2,000 of that as an asset and would factor that into your calculation of OSAP funding. If you received the maximum OSAP funding in your previous year, chances are that your unmet need is greater than the maximum and the car value would have little or no effect.

Having said that I just bought a 2002 Montana for $4,000 with 135,000km on it. The vehicle before that was a 1995 Quest and I paid $3500 and kept it for 6 years until I had 325,000 km on it and stuff was starting to go.

Best place I have found to buy good used vehicles from is my local garage - he buys and fixes up cars and he wants to keep me happy.

having trouble finding insurance for an older truck in ontario canada.?

We Answered:

If you are looking for just liability coverage then you should be having no difficulty finding coverage. If you are having trouble then look in the Yellow Pages and contact a few insurance brokers in your area (yes this means you'll have to interact with an actual human being, but don't worry as insurance brokers don't bite).
If you're looking for physical damage coverage (collision and comprehensive coverage), then you may be SOL. Unless your vehicle is licensed as a collector vehicle and is mint condition then you can find coverage as a collector programs although you're not going to find this coverage online, you'll have to contact a few insurance brokers in your area until you find one that has access to this program. If the vehicle is not in mint condition or is used as your regular vehicle then you are not going to find anyone who is going to offer physical damage coverage for a vehicle that old, nor would it be worth it.

What do I need to get temporary plates in Michigan?

We Answered:

You will need a clear title signed over to you (no liens) and proof of insurance on the car that you are purchasing. The VIN number can be obtained from the seller and given to your insurance agent over the telephone.

Moved into older home June 2007 in Ontario, Canada just found out previous owner hid water issues in basement?

We Answered:

title insurance is to protect you from paperwork hiccups, not this sort of thing
but if you went through a realator, there will be a property disclosure that would have any known defects listed... if its not listed and you can prove they knew, you have recourse you can take with the law. you would probably have to have an estimate for repairs but not renovations and go after them for that amount only or any depreciation that it caused if you just sell it to be rid of the house. it's not like the us where you can sue for hurt feelings or anything more
