The term 'salvaged title' does not affect anything that pertains to the DMV registering your vehicle. It does show up on your title as a salvaged title and your insurance company will know as well because they have record of your title as well. There is nothing you can do to "clean" a title no matter how much work you put into the vehicle whether it be cosmetic or mechanical. As long as you have insurance, you will be able to register your vehicle. I actually purchased a salvaged title, not by choice, and haven't had any problems with insurance or registration. I have only had problems with the vehicle :) So no worries! No matter what part of the vehicle is salvaged, if you did not know you purchased a salvaged title vehicle and the dealer did not disclose this information, you have a valid lawsuit my friend.

Yep. You have it correct. All you need do is to sign the title over to her. (fill out completely the sellers portion) She takes the title to her DMV, pays the fees and it is a done deal.

Most states do not charge sales tax on transfers (sales) between close relatives.

You get the title from the guy in NY first, then go to an agent and get a policy, then take the title to the DMV, fill out an RMV1 form, pay tax & title & registration, and then they give you plates. Then you go back to NY and put the plates on the car, to drive it home.

Yes, you need plates and insurance to drive it back home. Plan b, is hiring a tow truck to tow it home.

You both can be registered/legal owners of the bike, however, if you two split up, and the bike becomes a possession to fight over, the one who loses the fight must release interest in it, in order for the winner to transfer title to their name solely, or to sell the bike. Both should be written on the insurance policy also. I'm not sure about MA, but most states require you to take a motorcycle training course accredited with the State, and receive an endorsement to be placed on your driver license. Some limit the number of CC's you may drive also. You also take a written/drive test on a motorcycle provided by the State, not your own bike. You may need to verify with the MA DMV, regarding the laws there.

My husband is a resident of Texas, and while we were stationed in Virginia we sold his car (his car was registered in Texas). We sold the car w/out being in Texas, the guidelines for transferring a title is based on what state the car is sold in, not where the vehicle came from. If your sister is giving the car to you for free make sure that you get the paperwork notarized. If you don't get the paperwork notarized saying that she gave you the car for free, then you will have to pay a % of what the car is worth @ the DMV when you register/transfer the title (based on there tax law). The time it takes to receive the title depends on the state. Some states may issue the title immediately, some states may have a waiting period, but if there is a waiting period you can request to expedite/rush the title. You will have to pay extra for that to be done and w/a rush you'll receive your title in 3-4 bus days.Your sister will have to file a vehicle transfer notification with the county tax office in Texas to notify them that she no longer owns the vehicle.
