If the title is in his name, then you have a different problem and a consultation with a lawyer might be in order.

He may of course simply have misplaced it and be too embarrassed to admit it. After all, you do have possession of the trailer according to your message.

Honey, if you bought a bike with no title, and the insurance company owns the bike, IT'S A STOLEN BIKE. That's why the insurance company owns it now.

You don't own this, and you're not going to be able to get the title, until/unless you buy it off the insurance company. In other words, you're going to have to pay for it a second time.

what state are in in? state laws differ. when you sell a car in calif. the plates stay with the car. in ohio you take the plates off the car when you sell it and the new owner must get new plates in order to drive see what i mean? call the dmv and ask them would be your best bet.
