You won't go to jail but you did exercise poor judgment so i think you will be fined. I doubt it will be 1800 dollars, that sounds outrageous.
I wouldn't try explaining all you wrote above to the judge though. Just fix the problem, say you made a mistake and hopefully they will go easy.
