What can I do if the car title still has both our names after divorce?

We Answered:

You need to transfer ownership to your ex ... then it will be her car and her problem . Talk to an attorney . This should have been done before the divorce .

Bobbie Said:

Should I get a Hawaii salvage-titled car?

We Answered:

a salvage title usually means the car was in a flood, fire, etc. or some kinda majorly bad situation. unless you are a mechanic, it's probably not gonna save you any money in the long run.

Lester Said:

Would it be better to keep making payments on my totaled car, and use insurance money for a new one?

We Answered:

you have to 1-pay off the old car with that money and get rid of it or 2-use the money to get it fixed and keep paying teh loan. If you do not do one of these, you will be facing a nightmare with the loan company - they could call the loan due anytime if they find out the car is totalled. and if you spend that money on another car, you will be in major trouble.

if you are moving to Hawaii in 2 months, and the car is drivable - pay off the loan - keep the car until you move and then sell it - to a junk yard if necessary - it will cost a fortune to move a car to Hawaii - DO NOT buy a new car before you move

Buying a used car here in Hawaii, but how do I get the title?

We Answered:

You need to get the seller to fill out the odometer section of the title and then sign it in 2 places, once for release of ownership and once for the odometer. You need to get form CS-L (MVR) 1 from DMV and he needs to sign that as well. You need to get a current state vehicle inspection certificate and take all of that to DMV and pay the transfer fees.
