Title Insurance Fees

Audrey Said:

is there any difference between escrows title insurance fees and owners title insurance?

We Answered:

Towtruck,

I would call any local title company and just tell them you have a general question. They should have no problem helping you. Because it really depends on your area...

Simultaneous title insurance covers buyers and lenders. Owners title insurance covers the seller.

How much are the total tax, tags and title fees and insurance of a car? And is there a yearly tax?

We Answered:

Price of car X sales tax for the city = 'total tax'.

Price of tags check with your Department of Motor Vehicles, BUT dealers will tack their own 'documentation' fees on to a car that is anywhere from 2-3+ times MORE than the actual cost and you have no choice but to pay it or buy the car elsewhere, it's a money making scam they all run.

Title fees, dealer cost, Department of Motor Vehicles has one price the dealer has their own included in the 'documentation fees'.

Insurance is dependent upon your driving history, age, credit history(in some cases), insurance company, car you pick, etc so no one here can tell you that only insurance companies can give you semi-accurate quotes.

There is no yearly tax on a car unless you count renewal fees for plates/registration as a 'tax'.

Title Insurance Fees vs. Title Fees?

We Answered:

The title fee is different than the title insurance, and the fee is for the time and labor to gather all the necessary documents and sit down with both parties and get all the paperwork signed properly, make copies for buyer and seller, etc.

So essentially the fee is for pushing the paper around, the insurance is, well, it's insurance.

Judy Said:

Should I still pay title, tile insurance and closing coast fees if I'm refinacing with my loan originator?

We Answered:

Yes, be sure to ask for a re-issue rate on your title insurance. A title search still has to be done. Some fees will be duplicates from before. As someone else said, this is a new deal, just the way it is. 4-5K seems extremely high.
