Title Insurance California

Dana Said:

Have you had a good or bad experience buying title insurance in California? I'd like to hear about it!?

We Answered:

I work in PA, and it's the same here (only one state in the union does not require title insurance)

In my market, most costs are state regulated, so there really isn't a means of cutting costs. Could be different in CA.

I've seen several nightmare stories on a site that deals with free advice, but leans more toward the specifics of real estate. It's called freeadvice.com

If you go there, look for the Law Forums (top right on the grey bar), and then select Real Estate. You should find some interesting stories there. Requires a free login to post back to people. I'm sure you would be inundated with people who've been through the title ins. wringer in your state.

Crazyfornia is almost always the most posted state.

Ken Said:

In California, can I get my car title change into my name when I don't have auto insurance?

We Answered:

Yes. A car title reflects ownership of the vehicle, and you do not need insurance to own a car. You DO need insurance to keep license plates on the car, and to drive it on public roadways.

Darren Said:

Is it okay to drive an unregistered car with insurance in California?

We Answered:

Check with the DMV... In my state I have 30 days to get the title transferred or as in your case registered. During that time, if I have plates and insurance, we can drive the car legally.

(WOW! someone is so smart they know my state laws and don't even know what state I live in. I wish I could be that smart.)

Anthony Said:

Who pays for Title insurance at closing in California: buyer or seller?

We Answered:

In CA it is customarily the buyers bills, you include it in your sales offer if you want the seller to pay.

Any problem with buying a car imported from Japan if it already has title/registration/insurance?

We Answered:

The DMV, who would know, already gave you the correct answer. Why ask again? Ask here and people will just tell you to check with the DMV.
