Edit: For a 300K purchase $2,400 is too high. You need to contact a new lender who will help you find a title company with lower fees.

Did you sign loan papers? The loan papers are what obligates you to repay the loan legally.

And they're going to reject your insurance, if you don't list them as leinholder.

But big question . . . you got the paperwork for the car you just bought . . .does that mean, you have applied for a title in your name, and the DMV sent you the new title in your name? The DMV doesn't know there's a lein unless it says it on the title application. So my guess is, it didn't.

It makes this an unsecured loan, unless the paperwork says otherwise.

Don't assume they can't reposess the car, just because they arent' listed as leinholder. The car STILL might be securing the loan.
