Harold Said:

can my boss ask me for my mothers maiden name and the last 5 years of addresses?

We Answered:

This is standard thing these days and its just as much to protect you as them, from fraud, immigration regulations, a lot of things. your employer needs to know you are who you say you are, you live where you say you live and such like. Its very easy to get a job under someone elses name without this information, it can be checked against credit files, especially if you work in a job concerning money. also for criminal records, driving bans. any employer wants to know there employing someone who is trustworthy. mothers maiden name is usually used for security purposes, if you work in a large company where HR doesn't know everyone by name, mothers maiden name can be used to verify who you are before they let you read your employee file or privacy information, such as change of bank details and address. your mothers maiden name will never change and nor are you likely to forget it. wouldnt you be happier to give your details then have someone have your wages paid into there account just because HR doesnt know you from the bloke in the next office!

can an attorney in idaho issue title insurance?

We Answered:

I agree with Mary B, except that the title insurance policy that you may have purchased when you bought the property would only clear title up until the time the insurance policy was purchased (it won't cover any future events)...the title insurance policy guarantees clear title (or help to clear the title) up to the date that you purchased the property...

National Car Lease Speciall for '08 Toyota Sienna. Good offer? What should I be negotiating?

We Answered:

I just bought a 2008 Sienna XLE after tax is was a little over $40,000 and my payment is a lot higher than the figures that you are using but the vehicle cost a lot more to begin with. My last van was a Honda (2005) EXL also high dollar but it was on a lease, my first lease and my last least. I would rather pay more and have it belong to me at the end. You could buy one of these for about $150 to $200 more a month but it would belong to you, You have already made up your mind as you didn't want any of us to tell you that this is a bad deal over all. The free gap insurance is not a great deal as it costs about $295 for the intire lease period. Another question I would like to ask is how much over invoice are you paying for this new van? I also just bought a new pick-up reuck from Toyota it was listed at $17,800 and before we talked trade I got them to reduce the cost to .9% ( point 9%) over invoice this reduced the cost to $16,400 and then we talked about what my truck was worth as a trade it. I would check around as this doesn't smell good to me, I may not like a lease but you seem determined to lease so check around just like you were going to buy it the normal way. You don't say what state you are in, so I don't know about anyhing that your state might offer. Here in my state if your vehicle is used for the handy caped it can be altered and you can save the sales tax on it. By the way if you have a need for a handy cap device in the vehicle Toyota will pay for the changes up to $1000, remember that all that glitters is not gold

PAYE deductions and national insurance?

We Answered:

You will have to register company as an employer with HMRC. Directors are legally employees, even if you won't be employing anyone else. You will have to operate PAYE and NIC deductions for directors and any other employees, and make the monthly payments by 19th of each month. The main recent changes are that all employers have to do annual returns on-line.
I suggest you look at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk , in the employers' section. This tells you about employers' responsibilities and legal obligations.

I just usually tape it up, write "opened inadvertently" on the envelope and stick it back out for the postman.
