First Title Insurance Company

Kim Said:

How do I bring my car to the insurance company if I don't have insurance?

We Answered:

Tell them that you can't do that until a policy is issued and the vehicle is tagged. If they don't "get" it, find another agent or insurance company; you're dealing with an idiot.

The one time I was told that an inspection would be needed, the company (Geico) issued a policy on the contingency that I brought it to the local office for inspection within 30 days. If the State Farm agent you're dealing with can't do that, they obviously don't want or need your business.

Penny Said:

I need help with clarification of condo owner title insurance policy?

We Answered:

The TITLE insurance is only for the OWNERSHIP of the property - the title, as the deed is described at your county courthouse. It is NOT a survey.

Utility easements are on MOST properties, and won't affect your title. The size of the unit is NOT a title issue. You don't get "money" if the size is different, from the title company.

All that it really covers, is if a prior owner comes forth and says, Hey! That person doesn't own this property after all, because 18 transfers ago, the transfer paper was forged! Or something like that.

Michele Said:

Does having a salvaged title on a car matter when an Insurance company makes you a settlement offer?

We Answered:

It's a 9 year old car, worth perhaps $1,500 with a clear title. The salvage title reduces the worth by 50% on the average, which makes yours worth $750 and they are offering far more than that. Go ahead and sue if it will make you happy, assuming you can find an attorney willing to waste his time. You'll lose. If you want to keep the car, you can probably buy it back from the insurance.

They are not going to give you $3,500 on a car worth $750 and let you profit, despite what you want. Sorry, but it won't happen.

Veronica Said:

Do I need to get insurance and registration/title on my new car right away?

We Answered:

If you want to drive it legally you do. You need to call your insurance company immediately when buying a car so you are insured when you drive it away. Then have bill of sale with you on way to DMV in case you get pulled over. Also get a temporary proof of insurance card from your insurance company immediately for same reason. Good luck!

Mathew Said:

How much does a salvaged title make your auto insurance go up?

We Answered:

In my experience, not at all. You probably won't be able to get comprehensive insurance. (I only carried liability, a couple notches above minimum, and uninsured motorist coverage.)

As an 18 year old driver, 135 a month isn't bad, most places. It could be far, far worse.

There is no one best insurance company, really. Based on experience of me, my family, and my neighbors, I'd recommend against Geico.

I and my family have used Progressive for years upon years (and my mom had them through SEVEN incidents of people hitting her car while it was parked) and our experiences have been generally very good. Their rates are pretty good. You might find slightly cheaper, but they're nothing to complain about.

You should go to an insurance broker, if you're really REALLY concerned about price. They should have access to all kinds of policies from famous companies and companies you've never heard of.

edit: If you lie to the insurance company, and then get in an accident, you risk having your coverage denied. Do not lie to the insurance company.
