Car title, insurance, different names?

We Answered:

In the USA, despite what many people believe, anyone can insure any vehicle they like whether they own it or not. The person who insures the car will be shown on the insurance policy as the policy holder and the vehicle owners name will appear on the policy as the owner.

Jared Said:

Do I need to get a salvage title after car has been deemed "totaled" by insurance company?

We Answered:

Once you have salvage title you will not need new one. It will be listed in carfax (New accident) and also show same salvage title.

Joseph Said:

salvage title car insurance claim settlement?

We Answered:

Well, the fair market value of a SALVAGE TITLE vehicle, is 50% of the fair market value of a NON salvage title vehicle.

This isn't a Progressive thing, it's standard. Of COURSE you can buy another salvage title 2003 Honda Accord EX for $6,000 (payout plus deductible). That's all it's WORTH!

Sounds like you just didn't know when you bought your car, that a salvage title automatically cuts the value of a car in half.

One thing to keep in mind, Progressive DOES ask when you buy their policy, "does this car have a salvage or repair title", and if you answer yes on the application, they generally refuse to give you collision or comprehensive coverage on that car. Check your application.

Jonathan Said:

My husband is the only person named on the car title, and he has liability insurance on the car w/ Farm Bureau?

We Answered:

Are you excluded from your husbands policy? If so you aren't covered. Most company's will require that a spouse is either added or excluded. If you weren't licensed when you got married it is likely that you were excluded from the insurance.

You need to be added to the policy.

Keith Said:

18 yrs. old, Car title, Car Liability insurance and Registration?

We Answered:

Ok first of all when you buy the car your friend will have to sign off on the title. You need to get the car registered in your name. Then I would get insurance on the vehicle. Most DMV's require insurance to be on the car before they issue the license plate. When you get the license plate you will get a printed registration. You should be able to be on your mothers coverage as a driver.
