You really do not have any choice in the matter, you can't sell the house without paying them in full. They might have agreed to a short sale, but you have stated that it sold for over the lien.

This is cash money your father was paid on good faith, they are just asking for it back.

I am like you, average person, pay my taxes like a good girl, resent my taxes not improving my country (better roads, better schools, MORE colleges) but instead goes to support lazy illegal aliens and people with their asses glued to a couch instead of working. However, that does not mean I throw my own morals away and start looking for ways to harm others. Screwing people over does not make you a "good capitalist" it just makes you a self centered jerk. You probably are not like that, just thinking about it, but I can tell you from my life experience, good people make very awful bad people, they do not have it in them and end up screwing themselves in the end.

Good idea but here's the problem. The subprime loans were all chopped into pieces and then put back together again as a product called "mortgage backed securities."

In other words, in order to make them more attractive to investors they took 30% of a no-doc loan, mixed it with 30% of a 5% down loan, added 30% of a conventional loan, and threw in 10% of a high-risk commercial loan. Then they called that thing a mortgage backed security, chopped it into shares and sold the shares.

So one would have to unbundle ALL those bad loans before they could figure out the good from the bad.

How do we do that? Did all of the banks even keep accurate records so someone would be able to seperate all this mess? Who is going to pay the staff for the thousands of man hours it will take to unbundle these things?

Have you ever built with Legos? Imagine millions and millions of Legos built into a few million figures and now you want to take them all apart and turn them into many smaller little figures.

That's what unbundling all these mortgage backed securities would be like, if possible.

Now, perhaps if Paulson and Bernanke and our fearless leader Bush had decided to dismantle this mess 2 years ago we might be able to do what Ramsey suggests, but they didn't do that. They left the mess so that the Dems and the next President can clean it all up and now they are giving us the bill for their laziness.

This problem that you are having has nothing to do with being gay. These horrible things happen every day to people in relationships. The problem is that you are being viewed as a non-marital relationship (Like any other two people in a realtionship who split up) and there for using the law on your side is going to be a bit tricky because they are going to say that you were never legaly married (I believe loving people in gay relationships should be able to be married and have the same rights as straight people.) Although I give you alot of credit for not wanting to air your dirty laundry to the world and your families, you were loyal for 20 years to 1 person and you are entitled to half of the life you built togeather.

Personaly, I think you should fight for it. There were two of you who made the decisions, two of you who contributed to your family so why should you be the only one who has to start over? However, if this was an abusive relationship it may be worth it for you to cut all ties and say that this is the last time he will ever walk all over you. Many people never get out of these relationships until they find themselves in a casket. You should be proud of yourself for realizing that you were being abused and getting out. Your life may be the greatest gift that you could get out of this whole thing.

Whatever your decision is, I hope that you can finally be happy and move on to find someone who truly will apreciate you and treat you like an equal. You deserve that if for nothing else because you are a human being. I wish you the best of luck.

I can't imagine too many people caring what happens to them. Considering the number of people who's lives were ruined, times the years of hardship for each ripped-off person.

They are scumbags. The entire system of slobbering greedy capitalists are trash.

Each person on earth is equal. Those that steal & even destroy life in order to make astronomical amounts of money.. while millions of people around the world starve & live in deplorable conditions.. they should at the very least, serve as slave labor for the rest of their lives, serving the needs of the needy.

Nothing really ever changes.. the same old same old.. s**t... different day.. month.. century.. etc,etc. The pyramid system.. the few at the top supported by the teeming masses below. Hustled & conned from birth - onward.. taught to obey & work & die in wars.. never ending wars...
