Samantha Said:

Refund of Unearned Premium?

We Answered:

First of all, unearned premiums are refunded only if they were paid by the insured. Don't expect refund for something you did not pay.
Second, "throw the unearned premium in with escrowed property taxes and hazard insurance premiums and refund it to the policyholder in one lump sum check without any accompanying itemization" - only if there is still due amounts. The lender is entitled to offset your credits against your dues.
However, most of the mortgage lenders do make a direct refund of unearned premiums, even if the amounts are small, by sending you a check for the refunded premium.
You will have to call your lender, and find out what YOUR contract says.
