Mortgage Indemnity Insurance

Marvin Said:

Would the world be a happier place if we were charged a fixed fee for our mortgages....?

We Answered:

islam is not a complete waste of time then

fractional reserve banking will be the death of this planet

what's sickening is, banks keep all their profits, yet, when theyre in trouble, we all have to pay for their losses (northern rock)

and now 1000s of northern rock staff have lost their job because the bosses were too greedy and stupid

it stinks

Juan Said:

Mortgage indemnity insurance & negative equity?

We Answered:

With a mortgage - all borrowers a jointly and severably liable for the debt. MIG only protects the lender, but the borrower has to foot the bill as they are putting the lender in a high risk position. I assume your ex-partner is also being chased for the debt - perhaps the company may require his/her details, too?

As for being told it would protect you, you possibly have a case for misselling but you would find it extremely difficult to prove as MIG is one of the things that the FSA require Mortgage advisers to cover off in their initial interviews compliantly.

So all in all, sorry to break the bad news but it looks like you will have to pay up.

Raymond Said:

Can my partner pick up keys on completion date for house, even though his name isn't on mortgage deed?

We Answered:

You will pick up the keys from the Estate Agent, not the Solicitors.

Just phone the agent and ask them the question. It will be ok, but they will probably need a short letter signed by you to authorise them to hand over the keys tp your partner.

Once the insurance has been purchased, it should not take longer than 2 days to exchange contracts. However there is a but in this conversation. The seller has to nominate the completion date, which you have to agree to. This is to give both parties time to arrange for the removal van etc.

Once contracts have been exchanged, and a date set for completion, it then becomes a legally binding contract.

Enjoy your new property.
