Cynthia Said:

Democrats, what do you think of this story?

We Answered:

Great analogy, people can be extremely hypocritical about the facts but the reality is that responsible Fiscal programs have always been in place in order to provide us with the basic necessities of life...If helping others is Socialistic than I guess everyone in this country is a Socialist....

the fact of the matter is that Social Programs can be part of a responsible "Fiscal Policy", because they help lift people out of poverty and prevent people from falling into poverty.(this is why Social Security was established)... The regulations put in place by FDR, to keep us from ever falling into another depression, have been shredded by the de-regulators (and we know McCain is the de-regulation champion). Now we are riding that razors edge again and probably more dangerous, because we don't have the same industrial infrastructure as in the 1930s.

Republicans need to stop blaming the Democrats for the avenue our country has taken, they have not only benefited and enjoyed the fruits of their labor for too long but have failed to partake in making any kind of a difference in our country..you'd think with all money they have been lining their pockets with all these years our country would be in a better position..our current economic "meltdown" is evident that this "Greedy" method has clearly not worked.....

Have you ever met Joe?

We Answered:

No, can't say I have met him. I know a couple Joes but this doesn't seem to be anyone I know. What does this have to do with Religion and Spirituality again?

Clinton Said:

Liberals, what do you think of this story?

We Answered:

Very entertaining, but a load of nonsense.

(1) Only 9 percent of the labor force is represented by a union. Thus, there is a 91 percent chance that "Joe" the conservative isn't represented by a union. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_union… (See paragraph #3)

(2) "All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's insurance because "liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance." I worked in allied health for years and have yet to see one prescription healhcare plan this generous - not one. Also, see #1.

(3) You make an assumption that Joe takes public transportation to work. According to the American Public Transporation Ridership Report, 2,531,507 people (0.8 percent of the American population) used public transporation in the first quarter of 2010. Thus, Joe very likely doesn't take public transporation to work.

(4) The public transporation saves Joe parking and transporation fees. Probably not true. See #3.

(5) "Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay...because liberal union members fought and died for these standards." First of all, according to Gallup, 25 percent of the population is either underemployed or unemployed. Second, statistics compiled by the United States Census Bureau have consistently shown that a post-secondary education is the biggest determining factor in regard to strong job pay. If Joe has a good paying job, it is probably because of being educated, not because of union membership.

I could go on, but basically your whole argument revolves around two central premises: (1) that Joe has a union membership that has paved a golden road for him - which is statistically unlikely, and (2) that Joe essentially utilizes every government program ever conceived by liberals - even less likely.

You failed to ponder other possibilities - which are far more common and grounded in reality:

(1) That Joe's home is in foreclosure because he has lost his manufacturing job and doesn't have a college education, so he had to take a job working as a clerk in a department store because he has no job skills.

(2) That Joe has to drive to work every day and spends $250 per month on gasoline because of bad energy policies and high gasoline taxes.

(3) That Joe can't afford health insurance because it will cost him $500 per month out-of-pocket to cover a family of three - thanks in part to medical lawsuits, waste, abuse, and defensive medicine.

(4) That Joe struggles to pay his bills because he pays 10 percent of his wages to the IRS, 5 percent of his wages to the state, a 6 percent tax on everything he buys, and $2,500 per year in property taxes.

(5) If Joe lives in a city such as Detroit, he has to send his kids to a school that has a 50 percent dropout rate, crime, drugs, and violence. He doesn't get a choice of where to send his kids to school because school vouchers are inherently evil.

(6) That Joe works hard everyday to pay his bills and provides for his family, but he knows people that have been collecting unemployment benefits for over a year because they refuse to take a job that pays less than unemployment.

Anyway, your warm and fuzzy story about Joe, while amusing, isn't how it works in the real world for most people.

When you wake up from your pipe dream and enter reality, give me a call.

I get the pleasure of hearing this on the Thom Hartmann show now and again. Its truer every day.

And yes, I agree this is how Republicans (with blinders on) see things.
