His best interest should be the same as yours. If you feel it's not then you should look elsewhere. In my opinion, a mortgage broker should not be charging more than 1 point. Those that charge more are not doing a better job. They are just making more money.

As for shopping around yourself, if you have good credit and a straight forward situation then this is possible. If you may have problems qualifying, don't understand a lot of the finance terms, or want non-standard terms then you should stick with someone who knows how to get this stuff for you.
