The only reason I can think of for their rejecting you is that you have a very high utilization rate on your existing cards...i.e. you are carrying balances that are close to max. out levels....If this is the case, pay the balances down.

FYI: My basic CapitalOne card has rental car collision coverage....almost all do...Platinum cards aren't the only ones offering this type of service. Good idea: Most AAA memberships offer a maximum of $5K liability damage if you rent through Hertz.
