Home Protection Insurance

Claire Said:

Is R.S. Andrews Home Protection Insurance a rip-off?

We Answered:

I'm a realtor. I don't know of this company specifically but I do know that most home warranties begin coverage the day of signing and no inspection is necessary to warrant the home. Now, there is usually a deductible but has nothing to do with the age or condition of the repaired item. You might try to check out a company like Old Repulic Home Warranty or Prestige Home warranty and compare yours to theirs for some guidelines so that you can compare an argument. They usually all offer the same services. good luck

Is it considered insurance fraud (w/ home protection ins.) make a claim on a dishwasher and not replace it?

We Answered:

uh...probably. Most policies require you use the funds to repair or replace the damaged appliance. Anything else they will consider fraud

Alvin Said:

land lord insurance protection for myself, the home owner?

We Answered:

The short answer is No. You have to choose your tenants carefully. Join the local apartment association, which can be helpful in a number of ways, including possibly doing background checks on tenants. The primary factor which I checked for on prospective tenants was prior evictions, which were unconditionally disqualifying. As for maintenance, it is all yours; you can charge the tenants for damage beyond normal wear and tear.

Need home appliance protection insurance in Wisconsin?

We Answered:

Contact any realitor with an inquiry about a "Home Warrantee" - essentially, these warrantees cover your home appliances. Be sure to read the fine print to determine what is covered.

I personally think this type of insurance is a huge rip-off. Basically, the vendor that the warantee company picks to service any claim gets a $100 deductable from you, and then proceeds to nickel and dime you for additional repair cost issues that are not covered by your warantee.

If your appliances are fairly new, you'll most like be contacted by the store where you bought them, or the manufacturer to purchase extended warantees. I think these aren't worth the money either. Both Circuit City and Besy Buy make just about 95% of their profits from sale of these over-priced instruments.

But I have heard of at least a few stories where they've paid off.

Good luck.
