Do people over 65 need life insurance?

WILL HAVING NO LIFE lNSURANCE PREVENT ME FROM INCREASING MY MORTGAGE SO CAN SELL MY HOME TO MOVE TO ANOTHER?

We Answered:

Hello Sean. Unless there are some laws in Ireland to control this, which would seem pretty weird, my advice would be to just go ahead and try. As far as where i live is concerned, the ONLY kind of insurance the mortgage folk are interested in, is buildings & contents. In the event of your demise, your mortgage payments would be maintained by your partner so the bank would be not worried about that. In that worst case scenario, your partner would just re-mortgage your 200k house, release some of the profit you have made over the years, get a much smaller mortgage or even loan to cover the 40k left and carry on living there. This option is much better than the RIP OFF specialist insurances whose premiums will kill you, even if the smokes dont !

Top of the morning to you !

p.s. If you live in Northern Ireland, i am certain of my facts, if you live in the South, i can`t be certain. :)

If I were to die while my kids are still minors, would a $50k life insurance policy be enough?

We Answered:

You are a cheapskate. I have a $100,000 dollar policy and I don't even have kids or a wife. I was hoping that would be enough to bury me and buy dog biscuits for my pooch for the next 7 or so years but with Doc's math maybe I should up it to $1,000,000.

Single, No Dependents or Family - Do I need Life Insurance?

We Answered:

A lot of people have this misconception that life insurance is for death coverage only. If you have no dependants and do not mind how your funeral/burial is being done, then you don't need death coverage. However, things may change. You may have your own family later on. Insurance is always cheaper when you buy it when you are younger.

Life insurance policy can have other benefits that you may need. if catastrophic events like total disability or critical illness like cancer pays you a unwelcome visit. In such circumstances, you can't work to support yourself and yet you will probably live on for many years to come, with the additional burden of medical expenses and nursing care, on top of your basic expenses. Such coverage may be built into the basic life insurance policy or you can add in as a rider.

Some may tell you to cultivate a good savings habit instead. A good savings habit is necessary, whether you need life insurance or not, as cash flow is also a important factor when financial planning is concerned. However, it depends on how much you can save from your monthly income and how long you have to save before such events happened? Sickness may strike later but accidents can happen anytime.

Now, managing the aftermath. If you have a will and your executor only has the responsibility to ensure that the estate is distributed according to your instructions in the will. Please note that your estate is the amount remaining after paying off whatever remaining debts that you may have left behind. Nobody else have the responsibility to help you clear your debts after you left this world.
