Canadian Mortgage Insurance

Must I carry insurance on my Canadian home that backs my line of credit? We Answered:
If it's not contractually required, then no you do not need to carry insurance on your home. However you would be better off speaking to the person who arranged the line of credit and confirm this just to be sure as you may have misread the contract. Beyond that you are only in trouble with yourself unless you somehow have enough money to rebuild your house on your own saved somewhere. No insurance company is going to let you insure your house for anything less than the full replacement cost of the house. If you try they will just cancel the policy as they will see you as a moral hazard and not worth the trouble. You may be able to get away with it on a commercial type policy, however that will be difficult to arrange and will end up costing you way more.Herbert Said:
Denied admission to the states - I am a Canadian citizen? We Answered:
You were denied entry for that trip, but not barred from entry for the next so many years. In fact, nothing is stopping you from going down to the border and trying again this weekend. What I would suggest is that you read that letter that they gave you. They are suggesting that you bring with you proof that you plan to return to Canada when the trip is over.
Showing that you have a home (tax bill) in Canada, a job (pay stub), a bank account, your income tax return for last year, etc are usually enough to show you plan to go back. If refused, I believe that you also have the option to discuss the refusal with a supervisor. I would ask them to check your past history of border crossings, perhaps have them call your girlfriend in USA to confirm your trip and any facts you gave.
Likewise, on her end when she comes into Canada, she can have a letter from you showing that you accept responsibilty for her while she will be in Canada, and that the reason she has no return ticket is because you plan to drive her back after the visit is over.
Cross-border relationships are very difficult and can be very stressful. Things like this can come up, and you have to deal with it. All I can suggest is that you try again with the documents that they recommend, or contact Customs & Border Protection (US) or Canada Border Services Agency to discuss it with one of their representatives by phone.
The worst that could happen is that you try to lie to them or sneak across....Then you can get fined, end up in jail, and at minimum be barred from crossing for five years.

About Canadian Child Support...?We Answered:
It doesn't matter what your husband's ex does for a living or who supports her. What matters is that the courts have said that your husband must pay $450 for the two children he made per month...and that princely sum works out to be a whole $7.50 per child per day (based on a 30 day month). That is a paltry sum that won't cover the roof over the children's head, their clothes, medical/school expenses, transportation, holidays, toys, etc., much less the actual cost of their food.If I had been the mother, I would have gone back for more support money but hey, that is up to her, not me or you. I can tell you this though...no court will reduce the amount of support money your husband pays as that is pretty close to the bare minimum a non-custodial parent should be paying to support two children. And just because the boyfriend of the children's mother is supporting her, that doesn't relieve your husband of the duty to financially support the kids he made with his ex.
Anyway, on to your problem....which is not enough money. I am afraid that the court's point of view will be that YOU chose to get involved with a man who already had a family to pay for. And knowing that, you chose to have children with him. Therefore, if you do not have enough money to raise your children, you or your husband must get a second job, or even a third to support them. Or you need to get a job that pays more than minimum wage to pay for your kids. I am afraid that your husband's obligation to support the first family he made is not negated when he makes a second family. Rather, the duty is on him not to further reproduce until he can finish paying for his first lot of children.
I know that is not what you wanted to hear...but you made a choice to get involved with a man who had kids...and there are natural consequences to that decision...consequences you would not have been stuck with if you had married a man who had never been married before and/or had kids previously. And what do you expect...for his ex-wife to care for the children all the time AND pay for both her share and your husband's financial share of the child rearing...just because her boyfriend takes care of her financial needs? That is not just and the courts will not permit your husband to let another man pay for his kids! You made your choice...now you are stuck with it and the consequences. All you can do now is see if you qualify for government benefits...and get additional jobs or jobs that are higher paying.
Good luck and God bless!

Why do people believe that a family income of 86,000 a year makes them wealthy? We Answered:
Health care under this program would be socialism, and that's not how we do things in this country. We're too busy borrowing the billions from China, South Korea and the EU to pay for our bogus "war on terror" in Iraq. Now, get right, Missy!Rose Said:

Death, Debt, Life Insurance?We Answered:
I would strongly advise speaking to an Advisor. Lots of things to consider here. The Executor is responsible for settling her debts, and if she has any tax liabilities (for example, her RRSPs, or capital gains), The CRA can go after the Beneficiary to collect if the Executor does not. If she has other debts (eg loans), the Executor has to try his/her best to settle it all.
If the house is being given to you through her Will, then you can sell it after she passes. Check with an Estate Lawyer in your province to see if the Executor can hold on the the house to pay off the Estate's debts.
She could make you the Bene of her insurance policy. By doing that, you avoid Probate Taxes and creditors of her estate. What you could do is split the policy so that only a portion to cover her debts is paid to the Estate, and the remaining portion could be paid directly to you. By doing, you at least minimize Probate from the portion that is paid directly to you.
But I would suggest speaking to her or your Financial/Estate Planner and an Estate Lawyer. Lots of issues to consider here that you may not be aware of or disclosed in your question. Getting advice from his forum alone is not advisable.
