Lender Mortgage Services

Norma Said:

Is it better to deal with the lender or use a lawyer for a mortgage modification?

We Answered:

Don't you think you are better off working with your current lender rather than hiring an attorney and possibly alienating them from being able to work with you even if they wanted to? I think your lender would be more willing to try to help their own company keep the loan if they can. If not, you haven't lost anything by going to them first.

And I've never heard of a lawyer that does mortgage modificiation. Just FYI- once you sign that mortgage, your lender is under no obligation to modify it, ever. But many will work with their customers anyway.
