What Is A Insurance Premium

Nina Said:

How much does your credit rating affect your car insurance premium?

We Answered:

Whatever else you say about California, we don't use credit as a factor in rating insurance.

Anecdotally, I can tell you that people who pay their insurance bills regularly have fewer claims than people who don't. It makes total sense that credit would reflect this. Insurance companies claim credit as a factor since it is what is called a "moral hazard." In short, it means that what type of person you are can determine the frequency of claims.

Right or wrong, like it or don't like it, the numbers bear it out.

What is the starting insurance premium for a sixteen year old driver?

We Answered:

Rates are set by AGE, SEX, type of car, geographical area, etc etc (including past tickets or accidents).

At 16 years of age, you are right in the highest risk class of driver..those that just got their license and are inexperienced. Then you get some experience and you get overconfident. So teenage drivers have MORE auto accidents and those accidents tend to be more severe, due to speed, drinking, distractions, passengers, reckless operating, and risk taking.

Your parents will have to put you on their policy, so ballpark it anywhere from an extra $100 to $200 a month ($600 to $1200 a half (6 months)).

If you are a 16 yr old male, and have a 'hot rod', you'll (well, your folks) will pay "out the nose".

A 16 yr old female, though still high-risk, is somewhat less because they take less risks behind the wheel (Ha!)...

What is the Insurance Premium for Georgia Teachers, Family of 4 coverage?

We Answered:

As a teacher, it depends on which district you work for. Each district does it's own benefits program.

I"d imagine, you can call the superintendent's office, and ask them how much a family plan would cost the employee. It should be public information.

What effect will a speeding ticket have on my State Farm auto insurance premium in Indiana?

We Answered:

First of all, in Indiana they can't change your premium until your next renewal. So find out when that is and that will tell you when you might expect your first change. The only thing you can do is to pay the ticket and wait to see what actually happens.

Like I say, your premium won't change until your renewal and you will get 30 days notice before your renewal. So if it does go up you will have plenty of time to get other quotes and make a change.

If you haven't had any tix or accidents in a while then it may not increase your premium, but you just have to wait for your renewal to know for sure.

How can I lower my insurance premium?

We Answered:

It all depends on your driving record and the type of car.....however, most insurance companies will lower your premium once you turn 25 (being parent has nothing to do with your insurance premiums).
Since you are 25...go to your insurance company and have your insurance changed to 'liability' only...however, if your '90 Civic is financed...then you are required to have 'full coverage' until the loan is paid off.
