Refund Of Insurance Premiums

Keith Said:

Employer taking out health insurance premiums, but no coverage yet -- legal?

We Answered:

Group health insurance premiums are "pre-paid". Premiums that are taken out of your check in Feb. will pay March premiums, etc. There is usually only a two week (or one payroll cycle) advance payment though. I have seen it go as far as one entire month in advance, but this is somewhat rare. Anything beyond that and there is probably an issue with the enrollment paperwork. If the effective date of the benefits are changed, then he would be entitled to a refund of the premiums already paid for months there was no coverage. The employer usually will have an Insurance Agent that helps with the benefits. Find out who that is and they may be able to help.

I hope it works out....

Lonnie Said:

Am I entitled to a refund of my insurance premium from my employer?

We Answered:

It's going to depend on how it was set up. If for example, you had coverage starting Jan 1st, and they didn't deduct the premium in December, then yes, they can deduct for the second pay in January.

Nina Said:

can an employer charge an employee when they quit for insurance premiums they paid in advance?

We Answered:

Most likely you are liable for the insurance premiums. But at least you can put off getting your own insurance for another month.

Joan Said:

Can I get a refund of life insurance premiums I paid? I set up a $100,000.00 life insurance policy?

We Answered:

You're not entitled to a refund. You had coverage until the policy lapsed. In fact, you had a minimum 31 days grace period, so you actually got at least a month's coverage free of charge.

BTW, there is no "fee" to reinstate your policy. You are simply paying the back premiums that you owe should your policy be continued. You should be grateful for the offer; the company is assuming your current insurability and has no obligation to make this available at the original premium.

Geraldine Said:

Am I entitled to a refund of my health insurance premiums if I did not receive coverage I paid for?

We Answered:

Susan - It's hard to give a "for sure" answer to you, because there are still a lot of data I don't know. However, if you've been told that they will NOT reinstate you, then I assume you were cancelled as of December. If so, then they certainly owe you any money that you've paid since the "effective date of cancellation." It doesn't really matter what your representative (agent?) told you - what's important to find out is the actual date of cancellation. You should contact the insurance company to find that data ("what is the actual date my coverage terminated?"). Once you know that it should be simple to calculate how much money they owe you. If they give you any "trouble" (possible, but not likely IF you're dealing with a "name brand" carrier like Blue Cross, Aetna, etc.) tell them you want an "audit" of your payment history.

Hope this helps a bit...

Ana Said:

Health care - refund all premiums and get the insurance industry out of health care all together .?

We Answered:

"The rich pay only the same rates as the middle class does."

Right, they pay the same amount for the same service?

Why stop with health care - why not just make "the rich" pay $40,000 for a Toyota Corolla so the rest of us can pay $8,000 instead of $12,000.

Why?

Because then "the rich" - who actually pay their bills on time - will STOP BUYING THE PRODUCT OR SERVICE.

Again, what you propose is not only wrong, but unworkable.

Discuss It!
