Pure Premium Insurance

John Said:

can someone tell me the formula for net earned premium or net premiums earned?

We Answered:

Well, "pure loss" isn't common. I'd use "loss cost" if we were talking about workers comp.

Net earned premium will vary by line of coverage and state. In a state with no short rate penalty and no cancellation fees, it will be premium x days in force divided by 365.

Unless you're talking about audited premiums.

personal finance help?

We Answered:

(a) DO NOT DECREASE YOUR PROVIDENT FUND.
(b) What for you need ULIP since you say you are adequately covered by army pension and medical benefits?
(c) It is always a good time to invest in SIP. But I choose SIPs that allow me to invest 5 times a month. This allows me to somewhat leverage price averaging. Extending the idea, only two funds in India have daily SIP but the minimum amount is Rs.300/day which is beyond my range.
(d) Why go for lump sum. either invest in SIPs or await the next decline. It may be round the corner.
(e) Good, defensive stocks like FMCG, Pharma.

All the best colonelji.

Why have Henry Waxman's hearings (on big companies declaring huge losses after Obamacare passed) been canceled?

We Answered:

Throughout the Bush years, Waxman conducted an investigation into any and all "illegal" activities committed by the Bush Administration. After 8 years of in depth investigation, not a single charge came out of his office. Henry Waxman wasted 8 years worth of U.S. tax dollars and the media said nothing.

Obama Care has failed to address much of anything promised. It fails to put any sort of requirement on the "evil" insurance companies to maintain or reduce premium. It taxes people over the next 10 years $500,000,000,000 and cuts heavily into Medicare ($523,000,000,000 over the next 10 years) for all of 6 years worth of "Coverage." AND *sigh* according to Snoops, there is a provision that those religious groups who find "games of chance" to be against the tenants of their religion, will be exempt from having to pay into or be fined for refusing to participate - namely Muslims. Isn't that interesting. And still, the media says nothing.

Why can't an insurance company provide decent coverage?

We Answered:

The problem with the "pure capitalism" thinking when it comes to health care is that the lower premiums would come about (partially) by reducing risk.

This means eliminating adverse selections, screening out preexisting conditions, and charging incredibly high rates to those most at risk.

This means a purely capitalistic approached is inclined to exclude coverage to many people and charge those that actually use it a much higher rate.

From a capitalistic perspective there is simply no way to provide reasonable coverage, at reasonable rates to everybody in the country. This is readily acknowledged. The answer is what is the best way to involve society to resolve the short-comings. This is in doubt.

What is obvious is that even if we do not have socialized medicine in name, right now, we do in practice, based on the way our taxes are doled out at the state and federal level. An effective plan would use these existing taxes in a more efficient, streamlined manner.

Much of the concern right now is that a nationalized medical plan would simply be an additional tax/fee on top of existing programs, that simply create additional, ineffective bureacracies.

This may or may not be true, but it is at least a realistic comment to say the federal goverment has not historically been the most efficient organization and the concern seems justified.

Pet Insurance Companies... How To Choose?

We Answered:

Whoa! $500 per dog for microchipping is just wrong! You can easily call your local humane society to find out about their events in which you can get your dogs microchipped for about $25 each!

Since I have a cousin breed to the Golden (I have Labs), I have a lot of experience with the medications and health issues of larger breed sporting dogs. :)

For medications, I highly recommend EntirelyPets.com. This is the best place we have found online as it is both the cheapest and most reliable. They also offer heavy discounts and free shipping on most of their orders. It beats getting meds at the store or the vet!

As for insurance, we don't believe in it for our breed. Why? Well, most insurance only covers basic stuff like shots and the price isn't worth it. Sure, it is great to have "just in case" but did you know that most pet insurance companies will not cover most health problems with larger breed dogs such as hip dysplasia, knee problems, eye problems, etc? You would be actually losing money with the amount you are paying to insurance.

Now, if you just want the peace of mind - just in case there is an accident, then I would recommend looking at http://www.petsbest.com/

Best of luck with those Goldens! :)

With the economy being what it is -- is this really such a good time for McCain to hike taxes on middle class?

We Answered:

Hey..
For those who bash your website here is factcheck.org saying the same thing.

Seems pretty convenient considering wealthier people are on private insurance whereas working people get it thru work.

Discuss It!
