Premium Motor Insurance

Rita Said:

if i make motor claim in the past, do i need to mention it when buying a new insurance?

We Answered:

different companies have different time limits - most want to know if you have made a claim in the last 3 - 5 years.
If you have had a claim and do not tell them then should then have another accident and make a claim they could invalidate your insurance for making a false application.
The insurance companies share information from a central database so they certainly can/will find out.

Alicia Said:

Can my neighbours motor insurer issue him with a default?

We Answered:

Yes it is very possible. The debt is legal and failure to disclose relevant information to an insurance company does not excuse the debt. It all depends on how big of a deal the insurance company or collection agency want to make about it, but yes, they can mark his credit file if they want to.

motor insurance policy q2?

We Answered:

On the first claim, the third party's insurance covered your damange. No impact.

On the second claim, if the third party's insurance covers your damage, No impact.

However, if you are filing a claim to have your insurance cover the damages, expect an increase. How much is determined by the insurance company. The larger the settlement, the larger the increase up to a reasonable liimit for small value claims.. They probably use a 36 month time span. That is, you disclose any claims you've had over the past 36 months. Your insurance will increase by about £200/36 or about £6 per month. Larger claims do use that formula because the increase would not be collectible.

If the deductible is more than the damages, don't even report it to the insurance company. Just pay it because you will anyway.

Had none fault motor insurance claim almost 3 yrs ago with Co-op. Then changed insurers to BMW for the past 2?

We Answered:

It's quite possible some clerk has simply misread the register. Doubtless they'll look again now you've complained, if they still hold to their position ask them what the claim they're looking at was about.

Motor Insurance Quotation - Do you smoke?

We Answered:

it is seen as a possible distraction and therefore a risk. they don't ask over mobiles as it is illegal to use non hands free. much in the same way they dint ask if you speed as that is illegal too. As all insurance quotes are measured directly to risks that they have vast amounts of statistics to back up their premium assessments

Motor Insurance - Non Motoring Convictions?

We Answered:

High Risk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insurers refer to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, which states that all motoring convictions where you have received a fine within the last 5 years must be disclosed.

Even in respect of convictions such as dangerous driving or drink/drug related driving, this may remain on your licence for 11 years.

However, in respect of non-motoring convictions, if you were passed a sentence of 6 months to 2 and a half years imprisonment or youth offender's institute, the rehabilitation period for disclosure becomes 10 years.

Discuss It!
