Premium First Car Insurance

Marie Said:

I am good driver in California. I am 54 yr old and first time I scratched other car. Should I report aaa my in?

We Answered:

Your question should be: Will any premium increase that I may, (not will) receive be more than $1400.00 ? Of course you should file a claim. Why in the world even have insurance if you are not going to use it.

will my monthly premium for car insurance go up?

We Answered:

Just call your insurance company and ask them. There are too many factors at stake here for how much it will go up. That situation SUCKS though. .. .I feel your pain.

will my car insurance premium go up?

We Answered:

It is a comprehensive claim which is not your fault. There will be no "surcharge" to your policy no matter where you get your vehicle fixed. It will be a claim on your history so if you start having a bunch of claims over the next year or so, the company will count it towards a decision whether they will keep you as a client.
You can go to the shop of your choice, however, the insurance company will only pay a set rate for labor which is what most of the body shops in your area charge. The dealer charges a higher rate & will not work with insurance companies (in general) & you will have to make up the difference. Also, if your car is more than 1 or 2 yrs old (depending on the company) the insurance company will NOT pay for new manufacturers parts. They only pay for either after market parts or used parts. This is because the parts on your car are used & if new parts were put on the car, it would put you in a better position than before the claim & insurance only puts you in the same position after the claim (with used, 3 yr old or however old parts).
So, bottom line, if you go to the dealer to fix your car you will be paying a chunk of the claim out of pocket - the difference in the labor rates plus the difference between the cost of the new manufacturers parts and the after market/used parts.
All insurance companies do this. Some companies offer an endorsement to the policy, which you have to purchase for an additional premium, so that you can get manufacturers new parts until the car is 5 yrs old.
