Will going to a good driving school reduce my car insurance payments in Quebec?

We Answered:

No driving school can get you a lower premium. Be sure that the driving school is one that is approved by the provincial government. Go to the ministry of transportation and ask for a list of approved schools. The approved schools give courses that meet all the requirements of the government and so your insurer will give you the appropriate credit. Reputable driving schools do not give you promises of lower premiums...they give you the documentation you need to prove that you have an approved course!

Is $2,000 for a car insurance premium expensive for a teen?

We Answered:

For a policy with a new driver in a major metro area, it's probably pretty good. You or your parents could try shopping it, but be aware that no company wants to be competitive on new drivers, so you probably won't find much difference.

Lowering my car insurance premium by putting my car under my roommate's policy?

We Answered:

I'm not even sure you can do that unless roommate is related to you. Even if you could, the insurance on your roommate's car would go up too because the insurance company may assume that if you're both on the same policy covering both cars, both of you could drive either car.

It would be a big mistake for your roommate to allow you to this because if you have an accident it would impact both his and yours "accident-free" discount. By the way, if you two were on the same policy and your roommate had an accident, it would impact you too. I speak from experience because when I was your age, my brother and I were on the same policy on my parents' 3rd car. He had a fender bender and my accident free "clock" got reset. It affected me even after I got my OWN car and my own separate policy!

In any case, i don't think you're going to get much of a discount, if any because you are under 21 and really the next "age" related break is 25 and/or something like 9 years of driving experience (at least that's what my current insurance policy statement implies).

If you're in college and have good grades you may qualify for a good student discount. If your care is more than 5-6 years old, you might consider increasing your deductible or dropping collision coverage. You could also consider reducing your liability coverage but doing either of those options adds potential risk if you do have an accident.

As an older driver I get significant discounts by being a) accident and ticket free, b) having lots of years of driving experience, and having multiple lines of insurance through the same company (home owners, life, etc.). For example, my driving safety record cuts my insurance premium by almost 40%.

Decent looking vehicle, good gas mileage, low car insurance? &Where to find good car insurance rates??

We Answered:

Your father should put you on his insurance, and you pay him,you will both win with this situation if multiple vehicles are on the same contract.... that's why the rate he gave you was so much cheaper. if your making payments on the vehicle, your creditor is probably requesting you get full coverge, which is why it's so expensive for someone your age, if you own the vehicle out right, just get the minimum state requirements( Ca. is PL/PD )..you can also try progressive insurance, takes almost no time for a quote and they are open nearly 24/7...good luck.
