Life Insurance Premiums Canada

Gertrude Said:

How do I get health care in Canada if I move there, being already a dual citizen?

We Answered:

It isn't difficult to move to Canada. As a citizen you can move in any time you like.

However you are not eligible for healthcare until you are fully resident:

This is what you need in Ontario:

You make your primary place of residence in Ontario; and generally speaking.

You are in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately following the date you establish residence in Ontario (you cannot be absent for more than 30 days during the first 6 months of residence);
and
You are in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period.
Tourists, transients or visitors are not eligible for OHIP coverage.

Mind you, perhaps good sense will prevail and you will get efficient healthcare in the US soon.

b. that area is how health care should be funded:

.....>or should it be funded by general taxation.
c. there is also the question of how the premiums could be collected

.....>the way Canada Pension Plan payments are withdrawn.
d. there could be a separate way of determining how lower-income bracket people would contribute.

b. one way to get that increased revenue would be from royalties from patents.
c. The report says that Canada needs to find a way to create an environment favorable to invention and innovation in health care products.

Calvin Said:

Need to know what can i do about being mis informed about my life insurance?

We Answered:

You need to read the copy of your policy. It is very unusual for a policy to expire at age 71 unless it was term insurance. Whole life remains in effect until you die. Premiums for whole life tend to be fixed whereas for term insurance they are only fixed for five or ten years and then rise.

If you do not have a copy of the policy or can not understand what it says have your lawyer or family friend that you trust review it on your behalf.

I would then make an appointment with your insurance company to review the policy, what options are available, and to identify and resolve any misunderstandings between what you were told and what you actually have. Treat the meeting as an information gathering session. Once you understand the problem contact your lawyer and see what he thinks you should do.

CANADA-LIFE INSURANCES - ASSURANCES CANDA-VIE?

We Answered:

This is not a problem with Canada Life, this is a Canadian Tire issue.

Canadian Tire goes to an insurer and says we want to sell life insurance, so Canada Life gives them a product that they can sell that is profitable for Canadian Tire (make no mistake, Canadian Tire is selling it to make money, not to help people).

All companies offering insurance on the side that aren't actual insurance companies (IE: MasterCard, VISA, Sears, insurance from the banks, etc) are all designed roughly in the same manor and they are not regulated so they can make whatever rules they want.

This is no different than any other 'group' or term insurance that you buy. It will increase in price and will eventually cancel.

NEVER buy insurance of any kind from someone that isn't a linscensed agent becuase chances are it is not the best on the market and the person is very uninformed about the actual product.

Priscilla Said:

Do conservatives understand that the US is 37th in the World in health care?

We Answered:

Conservatives look at it differently. When I went to school, I was taught that capitalism is the best system because it raises the standard of living for everyone. People are allowed to chase profits because that provides jobs, creates a tax base, allows people to have a good life. But in the US, conservatives have forgotten that. To them, profit is not a means to an end, it is the end in itself. Something is good or bad depending on how much profit it makes for investors, and nothing else matters.

To me, if capitalism means that 99% of us must accept a steadily deteriorating standard of living so 1% can get richer and richer, then we're not doing it right. But that is the conservative view of capitalism. Actually neo-conservative.

Well by that standard the American health care system is the best in the world! Because it generates more profits, and more return on investment than any other health care system. In the US, the highest priority of the health care system is to generate profits. In every other country, the highest priority is -health care-.

Barry Said:

Does Canada's health system encourage Canadians to seek preventive care?

We Answered:

Canadians are generally healthier than Americans, because they are far more likely to see a doctor early on. Many have an annual physical, with full blood work, etc. There are moves to include more preventative medicine, but currently, it is more up to the patient than anything else. There are no particular incentives.
