Insurance Premium Tax Increase

Teresa Said:

Didn't Obama's health care bill just cause insurance companies to spike premium costs?

We Answered:

Given that the health insurance mafia raises rates almost every year the addition a few new rules probably didn't make any difference in corporate decisions on this subject. I'm sure they may have factored in a few extra bucks because they can, but who's to say if these rate hikes are justified? Of course we could have had Universal health INSURANCE...a non-profit public corporation that could provide HEALTH INSURANCE for all Americans paid for by individual premiums, tax increment, co-pays and deductibles...just like Medicare. Given that Medicare operates on a 3% overhead while private insurance companies operate on a 43% overhead including a whale of a lot of profit it stands to reason that under a realistic public option' we'd all save money AND we'd all have insurance. Too bad that didn't happen. Have fun paying more for less! I have the VA and Medicare...what's in your wallet?

Dorothy Said:

So California is trying to pass a Law that Breast Feeding Mothers get paid breaks to pump breast milk. Opinion?

We Answered:

No, I don't think they should get "paid" breaks. I think extra breaks for a breast feeding mother to pump are fine if she requests it but I don't agree with paid breaks. How many would she need? I mean it could cause a lot of problems in the work place and lots of people would take advantage and ask for more breaks than they really need since they are paid.

I think one 15 min break in the morning, regular lunch time, and one 15 minute break in the afternoon should be plenty. She could always pump at home in the evening, if she chooses to use work time to pump then it shouldn't be paid. That's just my opinion.

Should I get paid breaks to leave when my kids have a field trip I would like to attend? There are lots of things mothers could use breaks for.

Margaret Said:

Taxes increase, premiums increase more and more often?

We Answered:

I am not sure how much it would add to our tax burdern. What I do know is this, that the average person works for the governments (from local to federal) till June or July. When we factor in the things that protect us, like insurances, it becomes even more apparent how little real disposable income the middle class has. It is no wonder the average home has $5,000 in credit card debt alone, just trying to keep up with the American dream.

Here is a list of just the taxes we pay.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

In short, any tax, fee or service that you pay to the government is a tax.
Tax is revenue, doesn't matter how it is collected or what is it called, it is still a tax.

Finally, when a politician promises a federal tax cut, the revenue needs be made up somewhere else. That is shifted to increased fee's and other taxes then to the state and finally local and the middle class gets screwed up the wazooo. That $300 dollar windfall the feds send us in that tax cut ends up costing us more.

Andre Said:

which is worse: increased taxes, or a high insurance premium?

We Answered:

A high insurance premium for a service that will use death panels to decide who it will drop.

Besides, Obama does not want to bring in socialised medicine. He wants to make health coverage mandatory for all, and he wants to make sure that the (un)insurance companies are no longer able to use death panels to deny cover.

Why does no other developed nation have the US model of healthcare? Because in the US model, insurance companies use death panels to deny care to those they are meant to cover. And then they raise costs [1]. Not only does the USA spend more on healthcare than any other nation [2], it finds itself bottom of the table when it comes to preventable deaths due to treatable conditions when it comes to developed nations [3]. The sad thing is that rather than focus on these things, the right spreads lies and half truths about the reforms and how healthcare works abroad [4]. But, if you think that my points are wrong, e-mail me with proof.

Gary Said:

How will you offset your $220 a month Insurance Premium increase when Democrats pass health care reform?

We Answered:

Sell or close my business and retire, I sure cant afford the increase in employer provided insurance for my employees

Harry Said:

How about this instead of heavy taxes?

We Answered:

Sounds like the opposite of this health tax bill.

How about individual can write off half of the cost of their insurance like business and then they may be able to afford it.

How bout allowing insurance to cross state lines

All simple and fast things to do.
