You will need to call around and get a few quotes; there is no way to determine the amount without having it quoted. Different states require different levels of coverage; the miles from your closest fire dept and the fire dept's rating can affect your coverage cost. The amount of doors and deadbolts, the safety railings for stairs & steps, there are many many things to affect your costs. And even your credit score has an effect on what you will pay for insurance.

I can tell you though that I have a 2,000 sq ft home in a rural area that is insured for $175K (that's more than what we paid for it) and personal belongings through Erie Insurance for $545 per year.

Actually, the costs for insurance will be less than what they are now. And I can prove that as in nations where these reforms have been put into place, costs have fallen. You can read the second link for more on this, or you can fall for the lies and half truths of the right.

I am always amazed how many Americans seem not to be aware about the real healthcare issues relying instead on FOX and other sources to spread lies about the healthcare system of the USA and those abroad. I mean, if healthcare in nations with universal coverage is so bad, why do they keep it?
Obama wants to make insurance more available to all and change the system so that it gives the American people value for money [1]. He also wants change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Taiwan where private companies are involved in providing healthcare [2].
Obama campaigned on reforming the healthcare system. He said he wanted to make insurance more available and he was elected by the American people to do this [3].
FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids both for kids aged under one and those under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [4].
FACT – American insurance companies push up prices and work to stop paying out claims on those they cover [5].
FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [6].
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in any western nation with universal health coverage.
If you do not like the policies that Obama was elected to bring in, he can always be voted out of office in 2012. But if you disagree with the facts, please let me know. I am always willing to learn, but please provide proof. None of those who disagree with me have been able to do that so far.

I went to the link to see, but if you are paying $200 per month and have a family of 4, then it appears you are under a employer sponsored plan, so it would not apply to you.

This is based on people who have private insurance vs group, medicare, medicaid etc.

It just takes into account the age of each person, but does not allow to enter 4 people and how to break down per the family income.

But as it stands now, no one knows what will happen, if it will pass or not. Even if the bill passes, it will be either 2013 or 2014 and the rates are based on those years. In private insurance, the cost goes up each year based on your age. Mine was $259, but at renewal this year has gone up to $309. Whereas in group insurance it is based on the rates that the employer buys and passed on to the employees and is usually around 35% of what the employer pays.

But you can be correct and I am wrong, we will have to wait and see if anything at all passes or not. Considering how our government passes things, it could take another 5 years or more if anything passes or not.
