Insurance Premium Calculation

Marshall Said:

Car Insurance - How does No Claims Bonus calculation work and proof required?

We Answered:

Too complicated to work it out!!!
Basically you get a 1 year no claims bonus for each year that you have no fault claims.
NCB is based on continous inurance, so for example if you had 3 years ncb then were 2 years without a car your bonus would go back to nil.
Your bonus has to be proved by showing the insurance certificate from your last insurer.
When you had your accident any ncb accrued would have gone back to nil becuse it was a fault claim. That was in the insurance year of 2007/08. Your next insurance year started 30th May 2008 and is for the year 2008/09 - so it is correct to show 1 year NCD.
The time between your accident date and renewal of the policy was only 2 days short of a full year, but that doesn't count - you had a claim in 2007/08 so don't accrue any ncb for that year.
