You can count the copayments for prescriptions and doctor visits as long as you didn't set aside money in a flexible spending plan and get reimbursed from that.

Keep in mind that your medical expenses must exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income before you have anything to deduct. Your total deductions must exceed the standard deduction of $5,700 (single and married filing separately) or $11,400 (married filing jointly) before you benefit.

Preparing a tax return is like many other jobs. People pay someone to do it if they don't have the knowledge or time to do it themselves. I prepare taxes for a living, but take my car to have the oil changed. I understand that some people change their own oil, but it's not something I'm willing to try.
