What is your opinion of this article: how some people who can't afford insurance, can afford things like?

We Answered:

While Obama was preaching "Personal REsponsibility" to the students because of a 30% drop out rate (mostly among inner city) he preaches and pushes for government responsibility because less than 15% "can't" afford health insurance.

If those uninsured have 2 adults smokers in the house, each paying $80 a week for a carton of cigarettes, that's $160 a week -- or, $800 a month.

Chances are, they have their phone, cable and internet bundled at another $200 a month (includes a couple of movie channels).

And a cell phone for each of them plus the kids, at another $100 a month.

Probably driving a car less than 10 years old -- most likely leased at $360 a month (x2 for an whopping $720 a month).

Probably eating out at least three times a week while at work -- $8 a meal, x 2 = 16 x 3 = $48 a week x 5 = $600...

All totaled, we're talking $2820 a month out the window. But they can't afford health insurance...

It's all a matter of what's important to you and how you choose to spend your money. What good is choice without consequence?

What changes to the health care reform can the health benefits advisory committee make to the program?

We Answered:

I have not been any where near as you in researching the proposed bills. I find the structure of the Advisory Committee acceptable. There are some parts of the bill I do not think should be included as they are not directly linked to the proposal for the Insurance Exchange. I believe the focus should be only on National Health Insurance. I think they are trying to fix too much at one time. Changes in Medicare/Medicaid are good but I think they have enough merit on their own and do not have to be included in this bill. I do wish critics would understand this is not socialized medicine in the British and Canadian style. It is a National Health INSURANCE bill.

Why are people so uninformed about US health care?

We Answered:

They are still stuck in that 50s mindset that the most expensive thing is always the best thing. If we could just get some health coverage for those who can't work, but are not poor, it would be a good start.

One of the problems of affordability is that the inflation of the last 7 years is catching up, and gasoline, food, clothing, and other items are also rising in price. How long before health care costs double? Better get all those operations you might need when you get old right now before the price quadruples!

Michigan Blue Cross just announced an approved 22% health insurance premium increase next year so.......?

We Answered:

I pay $299 a month for Blue Cross and I am happy with it. I dont know anybody that pays a thousand a month for health insurance.

Do you seriously think Obamas plan will save you a dime?

Casey Said:

Which of these benefits of the new Health Care Reform Law do republicans object to?

We Answered:

I am particularly pleased with the ban on denying coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

Millions of people have lost their jobs and their health care insurance. If they can afford to buy a private plan, which many cannot, they will be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions. By the time someone reaches the age of 40, he or she probably has some such conditions, which are considered to be anything for which a patient has been diagnosed with or treated for.

Let’s be realistic: We are all going to pay for this change in our health care plans, but the cost will be small for each of us. It can be devastating for an individual. Most pre-existing conditions can be treated with prescription drugs and do not require surgery or other expensive remedies.

I am not comfortable with the government running our health care, but this is one issue I am very pleased about.
