Flexible Premium Life Insurance

Kelly Said:

opinions on licentive life legacy form axa?

We Answered:

First thing you should know that life insurance is never a great investment for any purpose. Life insurance's main purpose is to replace your income in case you die.

If you want to learn more about "flexible premium variable life insurance" which is really called "Variable Universal Life Insurance", read my research by going here: http://finance1o1.blogspot.com/2007/01/u…

If you want to invest, stick to true investments such as mutual funds, stocks, bonds, and so on. Don't mix insurance with your investment. Insurance is to protect your assets, investments is to build wealth.

What is a flexible premium life insurance plan, and what is a level death benefit type?

We Answered:

Flexible premium life insurance usually refers to universal life insurance, by which you can choose the amountof premium you want to pay and if you want the premium to stay the same over the life of the policy or if you want it to change because of some unforseen life event. Universal life is a form of whole life or permament insurance which has two components-the face value (this is the death benefit) and cash value. Level death benefit means what is says-you buy xxx dollars of insurance and the death benefit amount stays the same. Most term and whole life policies are level term. On the other hand there is decreasing death benefit that would be like mortgage life insurance. As the amount of the mortgage goes down so does the death benefit. Keep in mind insurance is controlled by state statutes and can vary between states.

AXA Equitable Life Insurance?

We Answered:

Be very careful with Universal life. It CAN be a great product when FUNDED correctly. What does this mean for you? An agent can easily come back to you and give you a price that seems just amazing. Even though Universal Life is considered a "Permanent Policy" some companies will show a policy being minimally funded. Let me translate that for you. the premium that you are being shown is NOT GUARANTEED, unless there is a rider stating that the premium will never go up until a certain age.tSo, first thing to look at is the GUARANTEED portion of the illustration. What will happen if you don't actually look at this? Lets say you purchase a 1 Million Dollar policy for $10,000 per year. That premium amount may only be good until age 85, then the premiums will SKYROCKET. Lots of people buy these based on price then after 10 years realized they purchased a REALLY expensive 10 year term policy.

If you are looking at Universal Life you are probably considering a permanent product either for legacy reasons, or to minimize your estate taxes. If you are married, look at a Survivorship Universal Life product from a top rated MUTUAL company. (ie. New York Life, Northwestern etc...look up the difference between mutual and stock life insurance companies)

What is a flexible premium adjustable life insurance policy? How does it work? Is there something better?

We Answered:

It means you can change the premium and face amount as you needs change during your lifetime. You must be insurable to increase the face amount, but you can decrease the face amount within the company guidelines any time you chooose to. You can also stop paying premiums if you need to and have enough cash value to pay the premiums for you. The something better is generally term insurance depending on your circumstances and your needs. Everyone is different.

Variable life ins policy / surrender value.?

We Answered:

The surrender value is what you can surrender the policy for. If you pull out 20k, not only does your cash and surrender values decrease, your death benefit will as well until you either repay the loan or put the money back into the policy.

If you flat out withdraw the money, it may be a taxable event and your cash and surrender values drop.

Point of note, if you loan yourself your 20k and don't pay it back in time, your gracious insurance company will gladly take it from the death benefit as well as interest and fees. Isn't that nice of them? Read your policy, this is stated in there.
