Groupama contents insurance, have you claimed with them?

We Answered:

The problem with items like televisions is that people actually want to use them! This causes a problem for insurers who often like to drag out claims for weeks:

> Phone in the claim
> They send out a claim form
> You send it back with proof
> Claims department checks it over
> Possibly a repair guy is sent round to see if it can be repaired
> Repair guy sends report back to claims department
> Claims department looks it over
etc. etc.

I waited five months for Direct Line (I've never used Groupama) to replace my TV before eventually just buying one myself. Then Direct Line turned around and refused to pay out for the claim because "I took away their option of replacing the item" -- apparently you can only get replacements from their "approved retailers" who they pay directly.

If you don't want to be without a TV over the Christmas period you'll have to fork it out yourself. With such an old TV, you probably won't get much cash from you insurer, replacement might be your best bet cost-wise -- it's whether you want to wait.

Should flood victims who had NO contents insurance expect financial help?

We Answered:

If you can't afford insurance that means you are living beyond your means!! I am sorry but that is not my fault. I choose a smaller home because that is what I can afford to live in and insure. People that choose to live beyond their means and then cry when they have no coverage for choosing not to pay their basic bills get no pity from me. I am willing to bet they had cable, cell phones, Internet, computers, digital cameras and other luxuries. The price of contents insurance is minimal. 1 digital camera would pay that bill for 6 months or more.

Can i change insurance companies half way through a policy term without a penalty?

We Answered:

Be careful! Cancellation in the first year can often be subject to "short period rates". Check in your policy booklet as to whether your insurer operates such a scheme. Also, if there has been a claim in the current period of insurance, no refund may be due in the event of cancellation.

Generally speaking it is not worth cancelling a policy mid-term. Best to knuckle down and then move it away at renewal - when there will definitely be no penalties.

Home insurance contents claim?

We Answered:

They will just cut you a check, they won't go to the trouble of actually buying a laptop. And it depends on your company, claims history, and credit score as to how much your premium will raise.

No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web.
Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around?
the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great.
this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins.
The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman.
Anyway I got good quotes and ended up saving money so I was happy.
So shop around and compare quotes which is easy on the net.
Good starting point is at this site.
