Honey, FICA style means, PONZI SCHEME. 20% of your FICA money goes to pay current social security recepients. 80% goes to pay government workers - administration costs. And, to pay for their benefits, which are better than yours, no doubt. 0% goes into an "account" to wait for you. Depending on your age (I'm 42), you very well might pay in your whole life, and have NOTHING waiting for you, as the system is EVENTUALLY going to implode. I don't know about you, but I do NOT want that for my health care "coverage".

Final costs in the last year of life, average around $200,000. So I think your math is off. Premature babies cost about the same, too. So you CAN'T put in enough to cover your own costs.

More people (I'm not going to say "take out" because there's nothing to "take out") receive social security and medicare benefits than they pay in. Some people receive payments for 30 years . . . after paying in for 35, at a much lower rate. Don't forget SSDI, where some people are collecting for 50, 60 years, after paying in a MINIMAL amount.

Again, "that money" is gone. It's not there. Every dollar that gets taken out of your paycheck today for SS and Medicare, gets spent tomorrow. Or was spent yesterday. It's NOT a savings account.

Federal tax money . . you know where it COMES from? Me, you, and OUR EMPLOYERS. You want to stop taxing corporations? Or increase taxes on the working people? You're not clear on that point. But the government's SOURCE of money is me and you, honey, and that's the truth of the matter. RAISING taxes on "for profit" businesses means, they raise their prices. That's how it works.

Our health system might not be perfect - heck, no one's is - but the system in the US provides the BEST coverage for the MOST amount of people. AND provides for the truly poor, in addition to the professional slackers. While, of course, lining the pockets of the government workers and elected politicians.

I think you're wrong. NOT all problems have solutions. Wherever you go, whatever time you live in, there will ALWAYS be people who refuse to take care of themselves, who want SOMEONE ELSE to pay their way, who feel they're ENTITLED to something they didn't earn, just by reason of their existance, and the fact that YOU have it and THEY don't.

What's the solution to THAT attitude?
