It certainly is when it doesn't work for you.
If you are in a high risk area, insurers won't even look at you, yet you are probably the one needing it the most.
If you suffer from an illness, you would probably be shunned by insurers or you would have to pay a lot more than someone healthy who wouldn't need it that much anyway.
Travel insurance is probably not needed and very rarely claimed. You would be better putting some money away when you travel to pay for any accidents or illnesses that may happen, or even getting a small loan for such things., and your not always guaranteed that you are covered for all things
I feel that insurance is a way of legally freeing you from your hard earned savings.
I realise that we must have insurance on some things, cars, home etc. but even with them we must fight for what is rightfully ours. We must read the small print, which should not be small. We still have to pay for claiming. Why? When we have put so much money into the insurer.When ever we make a claim we are put through so much trauma, having to validate the claim and have proof etc etc that I sometimes wonder if it's worth it. Another necessary evil?
It's just like banks...they are all legal thieves.
If we put all the money that we pay into insurance into an investment account, surely we would have more than enough to cover our losses.
Americans should stand up and fight for their right to health. If you can't afford it in Australia you are still looked after. No one is turned away. All that money spent on defense...surely the people of America are worth saving. I can't believe such a wealthy country does nothing to improve on their health system.
This is my view as an Australian.
