small chips on windscreen?

We Answered:

I'd say get them fixed. Now that it's summer and british (i'm assuming you're in the UK) weather is so unpredictable changes in temperature quickly could cause your chips to expand and contract, leading to a crack...

I have a windscreen crak on my car that needs replacing,i have third party ins and didnt opt for w.screen covr

We Answered:

Yes you can upgrade but you would be guilty of making a fraudulent claim. This if found out could result in a criminal record, and a difficulty in obtaining fair priced insurance in the future. Your record will show on every insurers data bank as it is shared. Be honest and get your replacement and then start off with a clear conscience.

do every company make you pay an excess on windscreen cover?

We Answered:

Yes - the reason is that back in the 1980s in one of the last recessions people realised that if they had to claim for accidental damage to the car then they would have to pay an excess (typically £50 then - but many policies had no excess) and lose their no claims bonus.

Cue a visit to a friend 'can you do these repairs and bill me as a windscreen claim please'? Result - insurance companies were defrauded out of payments. Thus they imposed the windscreen excess - typically £25,00 at fitst - now £40 - £60. Some even increase this amount if you don't go through Autoglass.

Of course if you have the glass repaired then usually no excess applies.
