Theodore Said:

what does it mean if my insurance covers "primary infertility" 50%?

We Answered:

Primary infertility describes couples who have never been able to become pregnant after at least 1 year of unprotected sex. Not sure how long you have been trying?? If it is less than one year, how would your insurance company know?? A lot of people's insurance do not cover infertility at all. Im glad you are able to alleviate some of the costs!!

Courtney Said:

what if any health insurance covers infertility?

We Answered:

A lot of health insurance plans have options to cover fertility treatments and/or meds to some degree, but most employers don't pick up those options. Some states have requirements along those lines; check out INCIID.org for information on that.

I happen to have health insurance through Unicare NCPPO and we were completely covered, but that's pretty unusual in my experience.

Jane Said:

Does anyone know how I can find what insurances cover infertility?

We Answered:

If you are getting insurance through your place of business, it's up to them what they want to cover or not. If you are getting it independently, then you need to talk to them about what you want to pay for and what you don't want to pay for.

Infertility insurance question?

We Answered:

If you are not currently a dependent on his insurance, then no, his insurance would not cover any infertility treatments for you. The question here is going to be will the infertility treatments be more than the cost the increased premiums? If so, then going on his insurance would be your best bet. However, one thing to know is that unless there is a life change event, such as you losing your job, you will not be able to switch to his insurance unless it is open enrollment time, and even then there might be a waiting period. For example, let's say open enrollment is in May but the changes would not take effect until the begining of the next benefit year in July.
