Norma Said:

what does homeowners insurance cover?

We Answered:

Homeowners coverage does not cover injuries to residents of the household.

There are 2 coverages that could apply to non-residents.

1. Medical Payments - pays for medical bills incurred by non-residents who are injured on the insured property. It does not matter whose fault it is. This coverage does not pay for pain/suffering or lost wages.

2. Liability - pays for injuries that are incurred by non-residents as a result of the owners negligence.

These are very general definition of these two coverages. There can be policy language that would affect how these coverages apply to your situation. You may want to go speak to your agent to get further information.

Gloria Said:

what does your homeowner insurance cover? or what do you know of your homeowner insurance?

We Answered:

There are two kinds of homeowner's policies and it is VERY important to know the difference.

The first is called 'actual cash value'. The other is called 'replacement cost coverage' Actual cash value is cheaper but there's a big caveat. It will only pay whatever your home and stuff were worth at the time of the loss. If you home was worth less than what it costs to replace it then you will not get enough money to rebuild your home the way you had it before. Same for the contents. You only get the depreciated value of everything inside.

Replacement cost coverage pays whatever it costs to replace your home in contents with materials of like kind and quality.

In terms of what it covers....most homeowner's policies cover the majority of perils most likely to damage or destroy your home with some exceptions.

These 'exclusions' are things like flooding, earthquake, riot, nuclear war, vermin, mold, etc.

It is important to ask an agent exactly what is covered when shopping for insurance and even more important to actually read your policy. That will specify exactly what is and isn't covered.

Tyler Said:

Does homeowners insurance cover your car, if you canceled your Liability, and Full-Coverage?

We Answered:

Homeowners insurance does not cover your car under any circumstances. Even if the earth stops orbiting the sun and goes to orbit another star, homeowners insurance will not cover you car.

In many states, you must have coverage for liability as long as you continue to own the car, and the only thing that you can do to avoid needing insurance on it is to sell it.

Brent Said:

does homeowners insurance cover injuries that occur on the property?

We Answered:

Depending on your state (and country for that matter) most homeowner's insurance will include two coverages that can pay for injuries that occured on your property. One is medical payments, which is normally included automatically (once again, depending on your state) at $1,000 worth of coverage. When you purchase your homeowner's insurance, you can typically opt to buy more coverage. Also, the policy should include liability of usually $100,000 or more which can be used to pay for medical costs that the homeowner may be liable for.

With that said, neither of these coverages will pay out for injuries to a resident relative (somebody who is related to the homeowner and lives in the home), usually only to guests. If you have a border and that's the person who was injured, there may or may not be coverage depending on the insurance company and whether or not they were aware that you had a border living with you.

Basically, if it's a relative of yours then there's no coverage under homeowner's, if it's a border then you'd have to consult your insurance company.

Eric Said:

Does my homeowners insurance cover theft?

We Answered:

It is not evident that item C shows that for personal property, theft is covered. it may only cover loss due to fire or water. even if it covers, there will be limit or exclusion. some items like private art collections may not be covered. some company also requires evidence of force entry. it all depends on the actual policy wording. call your agent to confirm. it is his/her job to advice you and that's what you pay your agent for.

Reginald Said:

My son flushed my wedding rings down the toilet will state farm insurance cover that under our homeowners ?

We Answered:

All homeowners policies give you the option to add extra coverage for furs, jewelry, etc etc.

If you don't have specific jewelry coverage it probably won't cover anything unless it was stolen from your home.
