What Does General Liability Insurance Cover

Bryan Said:

What type of insurance should an owner-builder carry during course of construction?

We Answered:

Course of Construction (COC) policy. Also called Builders Risk but usually Builders Risk is used for commercial construction.
I know Farmers Ins. sells COC's for a very low premium.

Mary Said:

Will my friends insuance company cover my rental car?

We Answered:

Your friends insurance company will not rent you a car.

Insurance follows the car. Therefore, your policy applies. And his liability coverage will not rent you a car.

Since you did not elect to purchase rental car coverage for your policy -- you are S.O.L.

Next time, be careful who you let drive your car.

Tracy Said:

Photo Shoot Insurance. What is it and how does one go about obtaining it?

We Answered:

What you need is a Commercial General Liability Policy with a limit of at least $1,000,000 occurrence & $2,000,000 aggregate and it looks as if you will also need an Umbrella for an additional $2,000,000. Commercial policies no longer have split limits as you have referenced in your list above, i.e. there is only one occurrence limit and then the aggregate. There are some other limits stated for specific other situations such as Fire Damage Legal Liability but that is not want they are asking for. It appears as if they are using the old wording on policies (i.e. the split limits were used on commercial policies over 25 years ago). If you purchase the CGL and the Umbrella you should be able to resolve this.

Once you have the policy it is simple to get the Certificate of Insurance and just ask the Agent to make sure that the policy contains the 30 day notice provision--it is an amendment, endorsement that would need to be done to the policy and for which you might have to pay an additional fee since most policies only contain a 10 day notice provision (depending on state law) for notifying about cancellation. Also the company or person that is requesting this will have to be added onto your policy as Additional Insured to make sure that they & the specific project are referenced in the 30 day cancellation provision.

Please sit down with an independent insurance agent in your area who specializes in commercial insurance. He or she can review your contract requirements, your business exposures and provide you with the advice and quotes and policies necessary to protect your business at the fairest price. Please note that you will probably also need to obtain a policy to cover your equipment and maybe a commercial auto policy if you are driving to and from different photo shoots, a workers comp policy if you have employees, etc.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

My friend wrecked my car, will my insurance cover me? help!!!?

We Answered:

You may have to file suit against your insurance company.
I would consider retaining an attorney. There will be claims for the damages to the bus stop. You cannot rely on your insurance to always protect you
