Travel Insurance Illness

Valerie Said:

When you book a holiday, do you let your travel insurance company know?

We Answered:

The small print does state you need to advise them of any conditions and as such you wouldn't be able to claim in the event a medical situation arises in regards to your mental illness.

personally speaking, not a chance, they would load a massive premium on top which would make it too expensive. I always take the chance that I don't have an manic episode whilst on holiday. All insurance is discriminatory against people with mental health conditions, so why give them my money.

Whats the worse that could happen? being committed to a psych ward in the US and left with a bill of thousands? I'd like to see them try and collect.

Carlos Said:

can i get a travel insurance due to cancel my holiday for my mum illness?

We Answered:

no. I'm really sorry about your mother but this is why you should buy travel insurance when you book holidays. You cannot insure against an event which has already happened.

the only thing I can think of is to try to find someone else to take the holiday, as it is usually possible to change names, for a fee. You could then sell the holiday to them.

my sympathies.

Herman Said:

Can anybody tell me what is pre-existing illness in travel insurance?

We Answered:

It depends on the specific policy that you're looking at. Each travel insurance policy will define what it considers a pre-existing medical condition and that definition applies to that policy. In general a pre-existing medical condition is a medical condition where you or any other family member has received care or treatment or has had symptoms that would cause a reasonable person to seek care and treatment within a specific period of time just prior to the purchase of your travel policy. The specific period of time varies by policy but is usually 180 days for policies sold in the USA.

Tracy Said:

UK: Question about travel insurance/pre-existing medical conditions?

We Answered:

Firstly, enjoy your holiday - we drove through Germany once and it was lovely!

Secondly, I am not sure, some family members had problems a little similar and I think they stayed with normal insurance because of money problems and what not. Maybe if you contact your doctor again (hoping he isn't like mine) he can give you some more information. If you also contact a insurance company directly, i.e over the phone and speak with someone explaining your problem, you may be able to get a little further.

If you feel lie you're going to be fine, which hopefully you will be, then maybe if you just listed a condition down which could be a little similar. Not that there are many similar! But maybe if there is anything related to lungs or blood, like Asama if that is classed as anything?

Sorry I am not much help, my mum normally sorts these out for our holidays.

Hope you solve it, and enjoy your holiday!

Manuel Said:

I would like to know if an illness is a pre existing medical condition for travel insurance?

We Answered:

It could go either way. The insurance company has to have reference to the surgery prior and connect it to the recent condition to even make a case on denial.

I think you stand a good chance of having it covered.

Betty Said:

can i use travel insurance for my chronic illness?

We Answered:

No. Travel insurance is to cover expenses in the event of accident or sudden illness. You'd have to check the details with the insurance provider to find out exactly what they cover, for example, some will reimburse your plane ticket if you get sick and can't fly, others will not. If there's something specific you want to be covered for, be sure to ask.

However, if getting medical treatment outside your home country were as easy as getting travel insurance, everyone would do it.
