Car rental insurance (UK)?

We Answered:

Going to a small company was a good move, the large companies are more fussy. Have you tried other small companies to see if they will rent you a car with insurance?

You could add the hire car to your own policy but many insurance companies won't insure cars that don't belong to the policy holder. Some insurance companies will not let you put 2 vehicles on 1 policy, others will.

I imagine the rental company will have already insured the car against theft so you will just need third party only, but check this with the rental company to make sure. Of course if you do just get third party only insurance then you will have to pay for any damage if you have an accident that is your fault or if someone damages the car while it's parked up.

Most companies only offer annual insurance so you will need to use a company that offers short term insurance.

Why don't you ask the rental company if they can suggest any insurance companies, surely you can't be the first person they have rented a car to without insurance.

You could try:

I think it's going to be expensive to hire a car and get insurance separately. Your best bet would be to find another small rental company that will include insurance.

Good Luck
