Mate, any HCF will happily insure you, non resident or whatever for health cover on a temp basis while in Aussie. My wife and I have even had her 66 year old mum from overseas insured by them for a 6 months visitor visa.
Hope that helps, they are in every state and city, let the fingers do the walking thru the phone book or just ring directory for the number--or these days I suppose you can probably do it online.

For the sake of approx £30-£40 for the insurrance, I would pay that than possibly the medical bills in a foreign country.
