It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against a woman because she is pregnant. My best advice would be that if they continue to harass you, contact a lawyer and do not let them get away with it. Legally, unless medically necessary they only have to give you a 6 week leave of absence for a vaginal delivery with no complications. If your Dr is putting you on bedrest, that would be considered a disability.

Workplace discrimination against pregnant women is prohibited by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended by the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA).

If it comes down to it you can file a grievance with the EEOC. I found the link below.

Oops! Didn't realize you were in Canada - wow! Their leave is waaayyyy better than the US. I found the following link for you (you can check with your province to see what you can do). They even give phone numbers :)

Help 2 get Ontario EI ( employment insurance) to speed up?

We Answered:

She should go into the office in person and plead till somebody does something. I know in one case the applicant was late filing due to illness, and they back-dated the claim. If one person doesn't help, go to another. If no one does, call their main line. If that doesn;t work, contact your local MP. It can't hurt, and just might work. Best of luck to her. I wouldn't want to be sleeping in my car in this weather.

Jeffery Said:

what is the actual costs of employment nad explain the implications for hosptality organisations?

We Answered:

The Hospitality is a great industry to work in, most workers will never retire millionaires working in a Hotel, but they do have their perks.

Insurance Rates-Very high...very physically demanding industry with a variety of injuries just waiting to happen. especially anyone in F/B (Food and Beverage) or Housekeeping.

Training-High cost as hotels generally have high turn over rates.

Pensions, sickness, meals, laundry and accommodation very chain to chain and property to property and are not mandatory.

Vacation days are guaranteed by state/provincial legislation.
